Introducing Rose Hill
Named for the rose — healing, femininity, grace
The rose has always meant more than beauty. It is the old symbol of healing and of grace under pressure. Our name pays homage to it, and to Budapest’s Rózsadomb — Rose Hill — the most gracious quarter of the city our founder left behind. She brought its taste with her, and built it a home in Armadale.
The Matriarch
She left communist Hungary in 1980 and arrived in Melbourne with nothing. She worked three jobs, fourteen to sixteen hours a day, and by 1982 she owned her own salon. It could have stayed a small suburban room. She had other plans.
She became one of the first women in Australia to bring light therapy, lymphatic technology and advanced European skin science onto a salon floor. She did not leave her heritage behind — she brought it with her: the discipline, the taste, the refusal to accept less. Her own mother had once sold lampshades door to door, under a regime that treated beautiful things as suspect. She, in turn, sold the science of skin.

The science of skin
The light therapy she championed traces to a Hungarian laboratory, where a scientist first observed that light could quicken the body’s own repair. That instinct — that healing begins at the level you cannot see — runs through everything we do.
For our professional range she chose Skeyndor: founded in Barcelona in 1966, built on cellular science, developed by in-house scientists under a single creed, “Science Creates Beauty.” More than fifty years on, it remains the standard we treat by.
A salon with soul
What began as Hale ‘O’ Nails & Beauty is now Rose Hill — the same rooms, the same standard, still kept by the family that built it. Many of our team have been here more than sixteen years, and it shows in the ease of a returning welcome.
